MSC cuts refractory consumption in line with global standards

Mobarakeh Steel Company’s Center for Refractory Maintenance Manager Iraj Mokhtarpour has said MSC has slashed its refractory consumption, adding the company’s Steelmaking Unit set a new record of refractory consumption (6.15 kilograms per each ton of molten material) in the 31 days to April 20, 2018.
He further said refractories are one of the highly-consumed key materials in steelmaking companies, adding a decrease in refractory consumption will largely affect the cost price of steel products. “Mobarakeh Steel Company has always intended to set an example for other companies by offering competitive goods in domestic and global markets. This record has been another successful step to that end.”
Members of staff at the Refractory Maintenance Center are determined to slash costs and create higher added value this year (ends on March 20, 2019), he said, adding the unit’s previous record (6.25 kilograms per each ton of molten material) was set in the 31 days to April 20, 2017.
Mokhtarpour went on to say the current volume of refractory consumption which has resulted in cutting costs can serve as a regional and global example in the steel industry to be followed by others.
The new record came on the back of close contact and interaction between the Refractory Maintenance Center and production and repair units of the Steelmaking Plant, improvement of working guidelines and methods, constant inspection of equipment, and acquisition of quality refractory materials by the unit in charge of purchasing raw materials.
In conclusion, he congratulated the company’s senior management, operations department and staffers on this achievement and expressed hope compliance with safety principles, control of consumption and cost-cutting measures set the stage for MSC to compete with other steelmakers in the world when it comes to cutting refractory consumption.
