Continuous Tandem Cold Rolling Units designs, launches monitoring system of resistance welding machine

The successful completion of a project to design and launch the Human Machine Interface (HMI) Monitoring System of the coil welding machine used for visual testing at the Mobarakeh Steel Company’s Continuous Tandem Cold Rolling Unit and storage of all alerts created in this part set the stage for identifying the defects of the device in a more speedy and precise manner and preventing a halt in the operations of the machine and the tandem’s production line.
Behrouz Shafiei, an expert of electrical repairs, automation and instrumentation at MSC’s Cold Rolling Mill, said, “Following the sheet rolling process at the Continuous Tandem Cold Rolling Unit, in some cases the inner layer of the coils drops and this creates problems in the production processes that follow. To fix this problem, the visual testing coil welding machine is used to create an appropriate number of welding spots on the inner layer of the coils.”
Connection to PLC and a review of plans was the only method which could be used to remove the defects associated with the resistance welding machine, he said, but the absence of a monitoring system had rendered the defect identification process very complicated. This would in turn halt the device and subsequently the production line at the Continuous Tandem Cold Rolling Mill. “To make this problem a thing of the past, the monitoring system of the welding machine was designed and launched by building on Wonderware InTouch [the HMI visualization software].”
Shafiei further hailed the following as the upsides of the implementation of this project: tractability of all stages in the HMI system; the device’s easier and speedier process of identifying the defects; a decrease in the number of delays in the device itself and in the production line; and the repairs personnel’s skill and mastery of identifying the device’s defects.
In conclusion, he thanked the management of the mill, the heads of cold and hot rolling lines, experts at the repairs unit and at the rolling production lines for their support as well as all staff who contributed to the implementation of the project.
