First of seven provincial steel projects enters production phase

Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Sefid Dasht Steel Complex, the first plant in a series of seven provincial steel projects, has started to produce sponge iron.
According to the Public Relations Office of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Sefid Dasht Steel Complex, the managing director of the complex said Sefid Dasht has started its production of sponge iron after nine years.
Arbabzadeh further said at 4:00 a.m. on Friday October 28 Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Sefid Dasht Steel Complex started its first production of sponge iron thanks to tireless efforts of the company’s managers and experts.
The product, more than 92 percent metallic, was taken out of the kiln, he said, adding finally after nine years of waiting Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Sefid Dasht Steel Complex became the first steel plant in the province and joined the ranks of sponge iron producers.
“The ground was broken for provincial steel projects in August 2007, but these projects suffered long delays, especially in the late 2000s and early 2010s. In 2014, Mobarakeh Steel Company and IMIDRO, which respectively claimed 65 percent and 35 percent of the shares of the projects, participated in the construction and launch of the provincial projects. Building on divine blessing, potential of domestic firms and all-out support by MSC’s managers and their deputies, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Sefid Dasht Steel Complex could operationalize the giant provincial project,” he said.
The DRI unit of the complex is capable of producing 800,000 tons of sponge iron on an annual basis, he said, adding its production capacity can increase to 1 million tons.
