Hot Rolling Mill optimizes its output roller table

The drives and motors of the Section Three of the output roller table at Mobarakeh Steel Company’s Hot Rolling Mill were successfully replaced and optimized without incident, said the executive manager of the steel giant’s Hot Rolling Mill.
Abdolkarim Molaee further said the Section Three of the output roller table, which included DC drives and motors, was replaced with AC drives and motors in this project.
The output roller table at the Hot Rolling Mill is responsible for transferring the rolled sheets in the final rolling stands (F1–F7) to hot rolling’s coil bolts after passing the cooling area, he said, adding the rolled sheets move under cooling showers as their temperature is lowered along the roller table and heat is transferred to coil bolts.
Molaee went on to say that the good performance of the roller table has a remarkable impact on decreasing the imperfections such as scratches on the sheet surface and on preventing the sheets from looping along the way. It also helps avoid telescoping and winding loose coils.
As for what prompted the implementation of the project, he said the initial design of the roller table was based on using DC permanent magnet motors, adding the unwanted changes in the magnet would affect the favorable speed one way or another. “Due to constant breakdowns and oldness of a number of motors, we called for the replacement of motors at Section Three.”
The designing, purchase, transportation, implementation, testing and assembling of the equipment in question and training [the staff] which took one year went as planned in the contract, the official said.
In light of the fact that the equipment was expected to be installed and launched during the annual stoppage in the hot rolling line, the project was implemented in the seven-day stoppage period in a favorable manner and according to plan, he said, adding during the implementation phase we evaluated the potential risks, removed the bottlenecks and constantly monitored the progress of the activities.
Based on the new designing, drives of Sections 1, 2 and 4 of the roller table were replaced with new drives which conform to modern technologies and come with new features, Molaee said.
Mobarakeh Steel Company is the biggest industrial complex in Iran and the largest producer of slabs in the Middle East. The giant steel complex accounts for more than 50 percent of steel production in the country and its current value stands at 200 trillion rials.
Mobarakeh Steel Company, which has an output capacity of around 12 million tons of sponge iron, is the world’s largest sponge iron producer.
