Industry chief: MSC manifests creation of added value, completion of production chain

Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) is the real manifestation of efforts to create added value and complete the production chain, Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari said.
The industry chief made the remark in a gathering of the country’s industry managers and owners as well as Iranian and foreign guests on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 13th International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery and Vehicles, Mining, Building Material Machines and Natural Stone Industry (Iran ConMin 2017) as he visited the pavilion of Mobarakeh Steel Company.
He said since its inauguration, MSC has paid special attention to development and creation of more added value, and made “From the Stone to Color” the centerpiece of its agenda. Other industries are expected to follow the example of MSC in doing a valuable job.
The minister went on to highlight the importance of efforts to create added value and complete the production chain and said, “When it comes to domestic policymaking for mines and mining industries, we should act based on priorities and create added value. To that end, we have resumed activities by reviving the Steel Chain Center in the country.”
To create more added value, we need more companies like Mobarakeh Steel Company, he added.
Shariatmadari further said the country needs to move toward handling its affairs through reliance on knowledge-based attitudes and establishing stable export markets if it ever seeks to make its 55-million-ton steel production target a reality.
He expressed hope the country can raise its steel exports to 9 million tons this year and take firm steps toward producing 55 million tons per year.
The minister said the construction sector is expected to boom thanks to preparatory measures authorities will take, adding this will help others areas in this field to operate more actively in the country.
The minister then said the government has dedicated as much as 10 trillion tomans in budget to industrial modernization, adding all industries, small-sized or otherwise, can tap into this opportunity.
He termed as valuable the organization of specialized meetings on the sidelines of Iran ConMin 2017 and called on those in charge to meticulously take into consideration all the issues brought up in these meetings.
The industry chief honored the memory of all those in the mining sector who lost their valuable lives in the line of duty and said safety lies at the center of all work-related activities, underscoring the need for ensuring occupational safety.
“We need to practically and properly use the potential of educated youth in all areas. We need to bear in mind that the world is constantly reviewing the ways of hunting the talents of our country. We should admit that the country is lagging when it comes to scientific aspects of mining. We need to make up for this soon,” said the minister.
He stated that Iran Mine House and the Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation (IMIDRO) should work together to make optimal use of knowledge-based potential in the country’s mining sector. “The use of wise youth and development of knowledge in the mining sector matters more than mere acquisition of equipment.”
Efforts to develop mines and mining industries are on the agenda of the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Trade, he said, adding, “To that end, the country needs to absorb more domestic and foreign investment, because Iran is not on a par with world-class mining. This comes despite the fact that Iran is home to rich mining reserves; one instance is a recent announcement that a rich iron ore mine has been discovered in the country. Estimates suggest that the capacity of the newly discovered mine is equal to the overall iron ore reserves in the country.”
The steps taken by the 11th government in the mining sector are equal to all measures previous governments had taken over the years, the minister said, adding, “This is still far from enough. The current government is expected to take more precise, knowledge-based steps in the mining sector in coming years.”
In conclusion, the industry chief praised job creation as a way to cement family foundation and said the mining sector has huge potential when it comes to job generation. “In deference, I’d like to say that I kiss the hands of all those who try to create job opportunities for Iranian youth.”
