Mobarakeh Steel Group’s production up 15 percent; Iran’s crude steel production up 27 percent


In the first four months of 2018, production at Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) stood at 2.276 million tons, registering a 12 percent increase over corresponding period last year.
During the same period, Hormozgan Steel Company and Saba Steel Complex (both members of Mobarakeh Steel Group) produced 505,000 tons and 388,000 tons of steel products respectively, registering production hikes of 6 and 70 percent.
According to statistics by the World Steel Association, in the 4-month period, Iran produced 8.127 million tons of crude steel, registering a 27.6 percent increase over the same period in 2017 which saw 6.369 million tons of various steel products roll off smelters across the nation.
In April 2018, Iran’s steel production increased by 12.4 percent over last year’s 1.735 million tons to stand at 1.95 million tons.
In the four months through April 2018, the 64 steelmaking countries in the world produced 575.155 million tons of steel products, registering a 4 percent increase over last year.
According to figures released by the World Steel Association, global production in April rose from 142.433 million tons a year earlier to 148.322 million tons (up 4.1 percent).  
The following countries were the top five producers in the first four months of 2018: China (288.969 million tons), India (35.381 million tons), Japan (35.129 million tons), Russia (23.797 million tons), and South Korea (23.696 million tons).
During the same period, production of crude steel at Mobarakeh Steel Group, that brings MSC, Hormozgan Steel Company and Saba Steel Complex together, showed a 15.4 percent increase to stand at 3.169 million tons. In the same period, Iran’s crude steel production increased by as much as 27.6 percent over last year.
