Quality of sheet rolling at MSC gets a boost

A project involving Germany’s Herkules Company to modernize the grinding machine of auxiliary rollers at the Cold Rolling Unit of Mobarakeh Steel Company has achieved all of its stated goals.
According to the head of the roller repairs workshop at the Cold Rolling Unit, the project was designed to improve the quality and quantity of grinding involving auxiliary rollers through the use of updated CNC technology. It also made the grinding of the unit’s rollers with chokes possible.
Mohammad Aminipour further said the modernization project was completed late last year [ended March 20, 2017] and came on stream early this year. “This project is among major achievements of the unit. All stages of the project, including disassembly and reassembly of all parts and equipment and installation of new mechanical and electrical equipment have been handled by the operations unit of the workshop under the supervision of Herkules, without any involvement by the German firm.”
Another upside of the project is that it resulted in the production of a large volume of parts needed for grinding with chokes and machining, he said, adding it also made it possible to repair some reusable equipment at the central repair shop of the steelmaker which in turn cut the costs of the project and prevented the outflow of foreign currency.
The project has made a lot of things possible: grinding with chokes, online detection of cracks on the surface of rollers, and automatic correction of the crown and thickness of the rollers. These are only some of the advantages the project has brought about, Aminipour said.
In conclusion, he said considerable improvement in the quality of grinding has left a positive impact on the rolling process in different sections of the Cold Rolling Unit.
