Iran is now one of the countries that can manufacture laser welding machines.

With the science and technology deputy to the president and the technology deputy of MSC present at the International Laser and Photonics Exhibition, Tehran, MSC and Iranian National Centre for Laser Science and Technology signed a contract for manufacturing and localising fibre laser system for the acid wash welding machine, thus making Iran one of the few countries possessing the technological knowledge required to manufacture this unique equipment.
Sourena Sattari, the science and technology deputy to the president, noted "we're honoured to say MSC has recently begun massive collaborations with manufacturing and knowledge-based Iranian companies in the field of localising the equipment and acquiring current technological knowledge related to steel industry. Also in the past, MSC signed a contract with another knowledge-based company in Qazvin for manufacturing X-ray light bulbs for the first time in the country, which is an honour to the country. A large number of the sanctions would be countered by such supports and actions." He further emphasised "what's important is for MSC to have a science and technology centre and can meet numerous needs of the industry relying on the company's financial potential and existing scientific knowledge and in collaboration with Iranian knowledge-based companies and specialised manufacturers."
In this regard, Behzad Bahadorani, the manager of cold rolling section at MSC, emphasised the role of welding machines in product lines: "acid wash units No. 2 and 5-stand rolling in cold rolling unit equipped with a laser welding machine that has a CO2-based laser-emitting source were bought from the American TRUMPF company; and regarding the unfair US sanctions, it's not possible to source spare parts and access the services of this company. Yet, only American companies have the technology required for manufacturing the new fibre lasers at about 10 KW, so any potential problems in the current welding system may stop the acid wash units No. 2 and interfere with the manufacturing process at the rolling unit."
Also, Masoud Gol-Afshan, the manager of MSC project development and implementation contracts unit, noted "with the collaborations between cold rolling manufacturing unit and MSC project development and implementation contracts unit, the required arrangements were made and finally on Sunday, 10 Nov 2019 some contracts were signed with Iranian companies."
Pointing out the benefits of local manufacturing of this equipment, he added "signing a contract with an Iranian knowledge-based company will lead not only to local manufacturing of this equipment, but also to improved technical knowledge and the ability to manufacture high-tech equipment in the country, maintaining foreign currencies within the country, having to spend much less compared to when we bought from abroad, independence from the technologies of western and American companies, and continuing to manufacture cold products in the future.
At the end, Gol-Afshan expressed his appreciation for the endeavours and collaborations of sourcing and technology deputies, deals commission, and managers and experts in cold rolling and sourcing contracts sections who, as a team, made the entire achievement possible.
