MSC recognized as exemplary provincial and national unit

At a ceremony to mark World Standards Day attended, among other officials, by the first vice-president and minister of industries, mines and trade, Isfahan's Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) was named as both provincial standard unit and national exemplary unit.
In the event, held at the capital's International Conference Center, MSC Chief Technology Officer Manuchehr Nikfar received the exemplary national unit statuette from Vice-President Eshagh Jahangiri on behalf of Managing Director of Mobarakeh Steel Company Dr. Bahram Sobhani.
Later in an interview with the correspondent of Steel News Letter, the MSC technology chief congratulated all workers of the steel giant on the achievement and said just like the past few years, thanks to the strategies worked out by the managing director and the efforts of staff members MSC has won the title of provincial standard unit and national exemplary unit.
He said a number of factors had been taken into account in picking the top standard units, among them, production of quality products that measure up to high standards, observation of civic rights, including the rights of customers, staff, community members and other stakeholders, outstanding endeavors when it comes to quality and standards, active participation in formulation of national and international standards, introduction of comprehensive quality and organizational excellence systems, and receipt of world-known standard certificates in areas such as quality, safety, health and the environment.
Nikfar went on to say that the ceremony was primarily aimed at promoting and disseminating information on the importance of standards in communities and their role in provision of safety, health and civic rights as well as at naming individuals and top organizations that have taken special measures in such fields as organizational excellence, transformation, standards and quality.
He said the following executive measures taken by MSC last year and earlier this year in line with its strategies and goals were crucial in the company's designation as an exemplary unit: MSC unveiled a comprehensive assessment model (IR-MARKING) in cooperation with the director of the National Standards Organization and his colleagues. Isfahan University of Technology, Iran Steel Research Center and the Association of Steelmakers contributed to this project. Assessors with the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) assessed the excellence model of the company. MSC also received ISO 10002 and ISO 10004 standards which have to do with customer complaints and customer surveys.
In this period, he said, MSC has also contributed to the formulation of national and international standards, has had an active presence in ISO supervisory committees, especially TC 13, which supervises the workings of steelworks, and TC 33, which focuses on refractories.
He said he hopes finalization and subsequent approval of IR-MARKING, which is in line with the policies of the International Standards Organization and its motto for this year (Standards make cities smarter), will give a more prominent role to standards in supporting civic rights and putting Iran on the same footing as pioneer nations in this field.
It should be noted that to mark the same occasion, a ceremony was held at Negin Conference Hall in Isfahan. In this event, which was attended by the director of the National Standards Organization, a number of deputies representing Isfahan in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the chairman of Isfahan Chamber of Commerce and the director general of Isfahan Standards Department, Mobarakeh Steel Company was granted a statuette and an accolade for its designation as the top standard unit in the province.
