PR and Industry Conference names MSC chief as top PR advocate

A 7th conference on public relations and industry named Managing Director of Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) Dr. Bahram Sobhani as the top advocate of public relations in the industry sector and awarded him a gold prize.
The ceremony in Tehran was timed to coincide with World Communications Day and was attended by Ms. Zahra Saeedi, a deputy who represents Mobarakeh in the Islamic Consultative Assembly and is the head of the chamber’s PR Caucus, a host of communications and PR veterans, PR managers and experts from across the country, as well as a number of PR managers of big industries. During the gathering, Dr. Sobhani was awarded a gold medal and accolade.
MSC ranks high in terms of indexes to select exemplary industry manager who advocates PR
Head of the Policy-Making Council of Public Relations Week Gholamreza Kazemi Dinan said an assessment of companies’ background and performance showed that Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) managed to secure the highest score in the process to select the best company in the industry sector for advocating public relations, adding to that end a number of specialized meetings were held with members of the Policy-Making Council and the scientific committee of a conference on public relations and industry.
He explained the indexes to gauge the performance of the communications and PR sector and cited the following reasons for selecting MSC as the best supportive company: undertaking social responsibilities; the fact that members of Mobarakeh Steel Group and its industrial units are established all across the country; implementing expansion projects; being awarded national and international prizes, especially the organizational excellence award and Iran’s National Quality Award; and advancing to the final of [Asian] MAKE Award which has come on the back of MSC’s widespread national and international communications.
He pointed to Dr. Sobhani’s interaction with media outlets, executive organizations and services agencies and said the committee in charge of organizing and holding a conference on public relations and industry decided to select the MSC chief as the top manager in the industry sector and best advocate of communications and public relations, and award him a gold medal thanks to the special attention he pays to using collective wisdom and establishing contact between the industry sector and scientific, academic and production centers in line with observing standards and environmental guidelines.
Dynamic PR should tap into media, cyberspace potential to release fact-based news and block fake news
Public relations offices shoulder a heavy responsibility; disseminating information is just one responsibility of the PR sector, said Dr. Bahram Sobhani after receiving his best PR advocate award.
He further said cyberspace follows a double-edged approach in that it both advocates and opposes public relations. “These two approaches should be clearly distinguished. Dynamic, powerful public relations should have real-time presence in the media and in cyberspace to immediately release reliable news [as it unfolds] and arrest the spread of rumors.”
The MSC chief went on to say that public relations offices become all the more responsible when it comes to the industry sector and macro-economic areas such as Mobarakeh Steel Company.
Dr. Sobhani said, “We cannot expect public relations offices to grow if trust in them remains elusive and no authority is delegated to them. That’s why public relations and those engaged in PR should be taken seriously.”
MP: PR experts undertake daunting task; they are both lawyers and clients
Later in the meeting, Zahra Saeedi, who represents Mobarakeh in parliament and leads the parliament’s PR caucus, pointed to the position of communications and public relations in executive agencies and institutions and said efforts have been launched to formulate a comprehensive law on supporting public relations. “This gathering has given prominence to the value and position of public relations.”
She further said a review of the reports released by PR people shows that public relations experts in different organizations shoulder a heavy responsibility, adding they both represent their clients and are represented by lawyers.
The MP said, “I hope we can tap into the reports compiled by PR players and formulate comprehensive legislation on supporting public relations, because public trust which is the biggest social asset can be safeguarded with the help of PR players and experts. We should bear in mind that public trust can be easily eroded. If that happens, we’d face its dire consequences.”
Saeedi, who is also a member of the parliament’s Economy Committee, said that traditional PR methods should be put aside and replaced by smart ones. “Senior managers are expected to cooperate with those involved in the public relations industry so that we can witness the growth of this industry.”
Social responsibility of industry sector, an area PR Offices can get involved in
Also in the gathering, Amir-Abbas Taghipour, a member of the Policy-Making Council of Public Relations Week, expressed satisfaction with the huge presence of PR players in the 13th Electronic Public Relations Congress and 7th Conference on Public Relations and Industry, and explained the council’s goals and policies on marking Public Relations Week.
He also praised the approach of industries toward highlighting communications and public relations in addition to marketing and trade issues, and said, “Commitment by industries to social responsibility is one area public relations offices can actively get involved in. They need to undertake this responsibility by respecting the dignity of citizens.”
